Sophos Email Security uses artificial intelligence and advanced threat detection to protect organisations from email-borne threats including phishing, business email compromise (BEC), ransomware, spam, and data loss. Processing millions of emails daily through SophosLabs' global threat intelligence network, the platform blocks threats before they reach user inboxes — stopping attacks at the gateway rather than relying on users to identify suspicious messages.

The AI engine analyses email headers, body content, sender reputation, and embedded URLs in real time, detecting social engineering tactics that bypass traditional signature-based filters. Impersonation protection identifies emails that spoof trusted senders — such as executives requesting wire transfers — by comparing display names and email addresses against protected user lists. Time-of-click URL scanning re-checks links at the moment a user clicks them, catching delayed-detonation attacks where URLs become malicious after delivery.

For outbound email, Sophos provides data loss prevention (DLP) that scans messages for sensitive content including credit card numbers, national ID numbers, and custom patterns.
